It is Easter again!

Friday 18 April 2014

Easter has been known to us from a very young age that the Easter Bunny will be visiting again leaving behind all the delicious and not so nutritious chocolates and sweet sins. Ranging from Colourful Easter eggs, Charming Chocolate Bunnies, perfectly frosted Customised Cupcakes and Delicious Decadent Dark chocolate Dreams… the list is never ending just like the rabbit hole in Alice and wonderland.

Have you ever stopped and wondered what these tantalizing treats do to your Skin? Furthermore what the effect of sugar can have on the skin?

Sugar causes inflammation and this is at the basis of aging in all organ systems, including the skin. One of the reasons inflammation occurs is from a rapid rise in blood sugar, which causes biochemical changes in the cell that result in accelerated aging. Of the internal causes of inflammation, one of the big ones is diet. In addition to biochemical changes, sugar causes damage to the skin in another way: When blood sugar goes up rapidly, sugar can attach itself to collagen in a process called glycation. This makes the skin stiff and inflexible. Losing this elastic resilience of young skin will give you deep wrinkles and make you look old.

Let’s have a closer look at Glycation.

Glycation is the result of typically covalent bonding of a protein  with a sugar molecule, such as fructose or glucose , without the controlling action of an enzyme . Glycation may occur either inside the body (endogenous glycation) or outside the body (exogenous glycation).  And this is exactly what we do not want.

Thankfully here at the award winning Wembley MediSpa we have the solution to the devastating effects of aging and sugar. Whichever path you decide to follow down the rabbit hole, we have you covered. The list is never ending, if Botox is your preferred solution or a fabulous facial. We can make your decision a reality.
